Measuring Standard Walls for a Mural

For walls that are typically square or rectangular, simply measure the full width of your wall from edge to edge. We recommend that you measure the heights of both the right and left side of the wall as the two sides can often differ. If one side is shorter than the other, select the greater of the two heights. We recommend that you add an extra 2” to the height and width of your mural to accommodate any variations in the height and width.
In selecting a custom full wall mural, our program will automatically add this to your measurements. Any excess can be trimmed when you hang your mural onto the wall.

Measuring a Slanted Wall for Wallpaper

If your wall is in an attic or is a unique shape, measure the width and height of the greatest lengths on your wall and ignore any slants or slopes. The mural will be supplied as a full rectangle mural and the slope can only be cut away after installation. As a precaution, we also suggest you add 2” to your overall dimensions. This can be trimmed off once your mural is installed. However, please keep slants in mind when choosing an image, as those areas will be cut out.

How to Measure Walls with Doors and/or Windows

If there are any obstacles on your wall, such as doors or windows, simply measure the entire wall as you would for a full standard wall and cut away the obstacle during hanging. As a precaution, we also suggest you add 2” to your overall dimensions. This can be trimmed off once your mural is installed. If using an image for your mural and not design, remember that the window and door areas will be removed.
